Located East of Kalimantan, the Indonesian Borneo, the islands are in the Strait of Makassar. South of the city of Tarakan and North of Samarinda, the access to this paradise is Berau also called Tanjung Selor.

During the cruise, we propose you to dive the islands of Derawan, Sangalaki, Kakaban, Maratua and back to Derawan.We will sail in the sea gypsies waters rich in fishes and sea life.

On the islands of Derawan and Maratua, there are local villages and diving resorts. Kakaban is a deserted island on the center of which there is a salt water lake. Finally on Sangalaki, there is a diving resort. 

About diving,

Derawan is rich of macro animals and you see quite often pygmy seahorse, crocodile fish, stone fish, star gaser, leaf fish... A paradise for the photographers and the lovers of  critters.

Sangalaki island is surrounded by a amazingly preserved hard-coral garden. North-east of the island, there is a canyon where all the plankton get stocked, attracting manta rays. You can see up to 100 mantas feeding over there. Finally, there are also cleaning stations allowing you to have a closer look at these beautiful and elegant animals.

On Kakaban, on the outside reef, the wall dives are amazing, full of corals - quite strong current though, making encounters with sharks and barracudas common. Inside the island, in the salted water lake, the colorful sponges are growing on the roots of the mangrove trees attracting flat worms. There, you will swim with harmless jellyfishes.

Maratua offers also great diving : all around the lagoon, deep walls covered with coral are waiting for you. There, you can meet thresher sharks and hammer-head. In incoming current, in the two passes of the lagoon, Grey reef sharks are fighting for space with white tips, schools of barracudas, leopard sharks...
