ImageImageLocated on the North West coast of New Guinea, Rajah Ampat - translation « the 4 kings » - is an archipelago of 1,500 islands, the main ones are Misool, Salawati, Batanta and Waigeo. Rajah Ampat belongs to the West Papua province of Indonesia, formely called Irian Jaya.

 

 

The cruise starts in Sorong and sails along the islands of Misool, Wai, Jet Fam, Mansuar, Waigeo and Batanta returning to Sorong. Ports of call will allow us to visit the uninhabited islands of Misool, and their spectacular sceneries, with caves, island labyrinths...

Rajah Ampat is the cradle of the underwater life ; scientists admit that the diversity of aquatic life is more than everywhere else, even in the coral triangle formed by Philippines, Indonesia and Papoua New Guinea.

With more than 1,000 species of fish, more than 500 species of coral, and more than 700 species of mollusc, the dive sites of Rajah Ampat transcend the other destinations. In 2006, new species were still discovered.

 

 

Rajah Ampat is still preserved and the dive operator are few, which makes this place even more special.

The highlights of the liveaboard are :

 

 - mantas and mobulas of Cape Kri, 

 - underwater sceneries covered by coral and lightened by the colors of the soft corals, 

 - critters such as nudibranchs, pygmy sea horses... 

 - rare species such as hammerhead or wobbegong shark, endemic Rajah Ampat epaulette shark, 

 - enormous schools of fishes, bannerfish, red tooth trigger, fusiliers,- to make you loose your buddy !!!-

 - pelagic hunting games...
